Travel Itineraries

The conveniently located city of Gaeta, very close to the main highway between Rome and Naples and situated on the shores of a magnificent gulf, makes Lions Residence an ideal base for your travel itinerary as well as a vacation place for rest and relaxation.

The city of Gaeta is founded on the historical landscape that gave birth to Virgil’s famous myth of Aeneid. Legend has it that Aeneas, the Trojan hero who founded Rome, buried his wetnurse named Caieta in the area of the present city. Vacationers from the time of the Romans came here for their holidays. In the medieval era, the Duchy of Gaeta competed with Sea Republics for the supremacy of the maritime trade. Considering the Duchy’s naval power, it is not surprising that after the great battle of Lepanto, the standards and banners of the Christian fleet that defeated the Turks, were sent to the city. They remain here to this day. Gaeta was also the where the long reign of the Kingdom of theTwo Sicilys finally came to an end under the last Bourbon king, Francesco II and his queen Maria Sofia. The memories of that royal past are to be found in almost every corner of the city.

Gaeta is nearby other fascinating ancient cities like Formia, Sperlonga, Minturno, Fondi, Terracina, San Felice Circe, Itri, Campodimele. It is also close to the beautiful islands of Ponza and Ventotene.
